A further court proceeding was held in the
Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Monday, September 21, 2009. By Court Order all
further shows organized by the Ontario Physique Association in 2009 are legally recognized
as CBBF and IFBB sanctioned events.
The following competitions are sanctioned as
qualifiers to the CBBF and IFBB system:
- 2nd Annual Woodstock Classic Saturday,
October 3, 2009
- 2009 Ottawa and Eastern Ontario Physique Championships
Saturday, November 7, 2009
- London and Western Ontario Championships Saturday,
November 21, 2009
The Ontario Physique Association is pleased
with the Judges ruling and encourages our athletes to participate in the above
sanctioned events.
We would like to thank everyone for their
support of the Natural Ontarios held in Hamilton this past weekend and congratulate
all those who qualified to the Natural Canadas to be held in Montreal next year.
Since June 21, 2009, our focus has been to
right the wrong done to the OPA and we have worked tirelessly to achieve our goal. As we
move forward the OPA team will once again focus our direction to our bodybuilding,
fitness, figure and bikini family.
The unfortunate circumstance of June 21, 2009
has caused much confusion in our family circle but in spite of that our passion for the
sport has not been shaken i.e. working together for the good of bodybuilding, fitness,
figure and bikini. Now, we can move forward, to heal the wounds and repair the damage
caused on that day, and we firmly believe, that we will emerge a much stronger and
improved
Association.

An OPA Competitor Shares her Story
July 15, 2009
My name is Heather Paterson. I would like to take this
opportunity to open up and share with you what will become my journey to the Ontario
Natural Championships on September 19. I am competing in figure. This will be my first OPA
show that I will be competing in. I have competed twice before in other organizations, and
yet, to me, the OPA always seemed to be the real deal, what I have aspired to.
This journey, however, is not your typical 12-week
pre-contest training; it began five years ago when I found this passion. I was never
really an athletic kind of girl or had any real exposure to sports growing up. While I was
lucky enough to never really struggle with weight issues, there was certainly a softness
and roundness to my shape that I desperately wanted to change. Seeing my first competition
was pivotal for me, the potential of combining such beauty with muscle was so inspiring.
It was seeing, for the first time, certain strength in women that I had never seen before.
I started to go to the gym shortly after the birth of my
first child, but not really with any structure or purpose. I started to get a little more
interested in going when I had some co-workers going daily at lunch to do the aerobic
classes. It was when my second daughter was just over a year old that I found myself in
the position of being a single mom and having to pick up the pieces of my life when my
marriage fell apart. It was during these difficult days that I found so many positive
benefits in my daily ritual of going to the gym. I slowly ventured out of that aerobics
class and into the "hardcore" weight room. It was there that I learned to pick
up a weight, not the five-pounders that I was use to, but the real weights, the "big
boy" weights and pushed myself! Through this I found what became my sanctuary and the
very source of what propelled me to become a stronger person not only physically but also
emotionally. I had a purpose, to become a better person and, most importantly, to become
the kind of strong woman that my daughters would look up to and be one day be inspired by.
I have been blessed enough to have met and found the love
of my life in a man that has been a lifelong natural bodybuilder and true believer in the
power of nutrition, focus and sheer determination. It was him seeing potential in me and
guiding me to change and transform into creating the physique I want. And then it was me,
pushing myself to go past what I believed my limits were. I now see that I too can be a
figure athlete -- the women that are up on that stage, showcasing the results of months of
sculpting a beautiful feminine physique. To me it is what represents the true strength and
the very essence of a strong fit woman. I have learned so much about myself and, for me,
having that competition goal to set my focus on is what drives me. It drives me to push
out two more reps when I thought I was done -- to find more and more creative ways to have
fun with chicken, broccoli and egg whites! Also to be able to smile and say, "Yes I
am still doing the protein thing!" and "No thank you, I will pass on the
cake!" It makes me who I am and for that I am grateful to be one of those kinds of
girls, a figure athlete in the making!

Online Membership Processing Now Uses PayPal
December 6, 2008
The OPA has allowed members to sign up online using their
credit cards for years now. However, the previous system was not as secure as we would
have liked. Although there were no problems reported, we wanted something better, more
secure, and more reliable.
This year, processing will be handled through a PayPal
link, which allows OPA members to pay with any credit card and is far more secure and
reliable. Simply follow the link that can be found on the "Join" page.
